These beautifully presented family run and owned lodges are by far the best wheelchair accessible accommodations I have ever stayed in. Brickhouse Farm has twelve cottages which are all wheelchair accessible and some also have hot tubs (with hoists). A few of the cottages can accommodate larger groups of up to ten people and some as few as two people.
We stayed in Chestnut Cottage.
On the ground floor, there is a twin bed accessible room. This bedroom has a single electric bed and a single carer’s bed. There is a ceiling track hoist which goes around the bedroom and into the ensuite which is a large wet room with a lowered sink, a shower wheelchair and a toilet with space either side for transfers.
On the ground floor, there is also an accessible standard double bedroom with a small ensuite which includes a shower cubicle. On the first floor, which is not wheelchair accessible, there is a double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with a bath tub. The living and kitchen areas are spacious and the kitchen has rising high low countertops.
Chestnut Cottage also has a private hot tub with a tracked hoist. This really made our stay relaxing and super special! The outdoor decking was easily accessed through double patio doors and looked out over the beautiful lake (fishing tackle is available to rent).
Brickhouse Farm also offers the use of a hydrotherapy pool (at an extra cost) and must be booked in advance. They have also recently added a new restaurant.
The only disadvantage for us is the location. As a family of adults, we usually prefer more places to explore. The nearest large town is Blackpool (approximately nine miles away) which may suit families with children or adults who prefer some nightlife however this depends on personal preference and the type of trip you may be planning.
Pros:
-Excellent wheelchair accessible facilities
-Hoist over the hot tub
-Access to the hydrotherapy pool
-Restaurant on site
-Equipment provided (ceiling hoist, shower wheelchair)
-Access to the lake
-Can accommodate different group sizes
Cons:
-Quite pricey
-Extra charge for access to hydrotherapy pool
I give this cottage the following ratings;
Location 2*
Accessibility 5*
