Windmill Barns is a beautiful countryside retreat in the village of Alcester, just 20 minutes from the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon. The property has been thoughtfully converted into three wheelchair-accessible holiday lets.

Each barn features a wood-fired hot tub (wood available at an extra charge) with a ceiling hoist, making it easy to transfer using your own hoist sling.

We stayed in Buck Cottage, which has three bedrooms and sleeps up to six people. There’s also a sofa bed that can accommodate additional guests.

Downstairs, there’s a spacious open-plan kitchen and living room. The living area includes two large sofas and an electric reclining armchair, while the kitchen is well-equipped with all the essentials and a large dining table. There’s also a small downstairs toilet with a left-hand transfer.

The second floor is accessible via a lift located next to the stairs, which takes you directly into the accessible bedroom. This bedroom includes a profiling bed and a standard single bed, along with a ceiling hoist. The en-suite has a right-hand transfer toilet, a wet room-style shower, and a shower chair. A selection of shower chairs and other equipment can be booked in advance.

The second bedroom has two single beds, while the third features a double bed. These two bedrooms share a bathroom with a toilet and shower cubicle.

Outside, there’s a private courtyard garden with a hot tub (also with ceiling hoist) and a picnic table. To the front of the barn, there’s a grassy area perfect for BBQs and enjoying the scenic countryside views. They’re also dog friendly.

The location is a real bonus — Alcester has a charming high street with pubs, charity shops, florists, jewellers, and more. Stratford-upon-Avon is nearby and offers a wide range of attractions, including the famous Shakespeare sites. One thing to note: the barn is located down a bumpy country lane, which can be a bit tricky to navigate.

We had a lovely stay at Windmill Barns and would definitely visit again.
